Profil

Jag har en skoglig bakgrund och ett stort intresse för de sociala och kulturella aspekterna av hur vi som individer och samhälle ser på skogen och dess nyttjande. Därför har jag under min utbildning till jägmästare (examen 1983), i mitt doktorandarbete (disputation 1994) och efterföljande forsning ägnat mig åt att studera olika aspekter på skogsanvändningen inklusive hur ägandet och brukandet förändras över tid. Framför allt har jag intresserat mig för familjeskogsbruket och det skogsbruk som förvaltas gemensamt, d v s allmänningsskogar och kommunskogar. I min forskning tillämpar jag ofta ett genusperspektiv, vilket också bidragit till en rad olika nationella och internationella engagemang.  

Engagemang och uppdrag

Sedan år 2000 är jag engagerad i IUFRO, först som coordinator för arbetsgruppen 6.08.01 Gender Research in Forestry och från 2010 -2019 som coordinator för forskningsgruppen 6.08 Gender and Forestry. För närvarande koordinerar jag en IUFRO Task Force "Gender Equality in Forestry". Mellan åren 2004 och 2006 ledde jag ett Team of Specialist on Gender and Forestry på uppdrag av FAO/ECE/ILO och jag medverkar också i egenskap av genderspecialist i olika internationella FoU program/projekt (Etiopien, Filipinerna, Nicaragua, EU).  Nationellt har jag framförallt varit engagerad i olika jämställdhetsinitiativ, såväl myndighetsinitierade som initierade av skogssektorn. t ex inom ramen för den nationella jämställdhetsstrategien för skogsbrukssektorn respektive SLU:s jämställdhetsarbete.  

Sedan 2001 är jag docent i skogshushållning och sedan 2006 även docent i skogsteknologi. År 2013 blev jag adjungerad professor vid School of Environment and Sustainability, University of Saskatchewan.  Inom SLU och dess skogsvetenskapliga fakultet har jag haft uppdrag som fakultetsledamot i tre perioder (2004 – 2006, 2007-2009, 2013-2015) och i SLU:s Nämnd för Excellenta Lärare (NEX) 2017-2018.  Jag inår även i redaktionsrådet Scandinavian Journal of Forest Research respektive  Small-Scale Forestry. 

Forskningsledarskap

Min forskartjänst är sedan 2006 placerad vid institutionen för skoglig resurshushållning där jag leder en forskargrupp inom ämnesområdet landskapsstudier (tidigare skoglia landsbygdsstudier). Genom åren har jag lett ett antal forskningsprojekt a varierande omfattning. Till de mer omfattande hör:

Jag har handlett 6 doktorander fram till doktorsexamen och 2 fram till licentiatexamen. Dessutaom har jag varit biträdande handledare for 3 doktorande och 1 licentiat fram till examen.  För närvarande är jag huvudhandledade för 2 doktorander och biträdande handledare till ytterligare 2 doktorander utanför SLU.
