Presentation
I have worked within age and growth related fisheries research in the Baltic Sea since 2006. I started my PhD studies in November 2016 at the Department of Aquatic Resources. My research focuses on interpreting trace elemental signals in fish otoliths (ear bones). The lifelong production of otolith material creates annual growth zones like tree rings. The chemical composition of otoliths can be used for age determination of difficult-to-age species, such as the eastern Baltic cod, and for assessing growth, metabolic activity, migration behaviour and hypoxia exposure. Chemical analyses of otoliths from archives provide current and historical insights of environmental and biological changes over time. My PhD studies have been funded by the Swedish Research Council Formas and by the Department of Aquatic Resources at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences.
