Protein feed for Swedish lamb production

Published: 20 November 2013

A literature review of different protein feeds that are suitable for sheep in Sweden are made by Gun Bernes and Kjell Martinsson, Department of Agricultural Sciences for Northern Sweden, SLU.

There are very few Swedish scientific studies done on fodder for sheep. Therefore, the review is based on how the actual protein feedstuffs worked in foreign studies and the levels that are possible to give without risking negative consequences.

The aim is to facilitate the use of protein feed possible to grow in Sweden and thereby reduce imports of soy. The feeds taken up in the study are peas, faba bean, lupine, vetch, flaxseed, different rapeseed products and brewery dregs.
