Hemp as animal feed gives more Omega 3 in meat

Published: 27 August 2013

Hemp instead of soy in the feed resulted in more omega 3 fatty acids in the meat. It was found in a study of fat quality of young bulls and steers. Other meat quality parameters did not differ between soy- and hemp-fed dairy breed steers.

The study concluded that hemp is an excellent protein feed. This study was performed by Jana Pickova at SLU and was part of a research project funded by The Swedish Farmers' Foundation for Agricultural Research (SLF).
