In September 2021, the United Nations arranged Food Systems Summit as part of the Decade of Action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. SLU Future Food was involved in this summit and created contacts and made SLU visible and planned activities around sustainable food systems.
The United Nations summit on Food Systems took place on 23 September 2021, in conjunction with the UN General Assembly (UNGA 76). 51,000 people from 193 countries attended the meeting, which was held virtually. All sessions were broadcast via webcasts that were available for anyone to listen to.
Representatives from about 150 countries, of which about 90 heads of state and government, gave national speeches and in addition a wide range of actors participated, such as representatives of women's organizations, indigenous peoples, young people, civil society and the private sector.
