Report From the Focus Group Leader

Last changed: 22 October 2024

Buildings and Energy is the third focus group launched under the Higher Education's Climate Network.

The task of the focus group is to develop a guideline/guidance that all HEIs can adopt so that the HEIs' use of premises and buildings contributes to the goals of the Paris Agreement. The work will be based on the knowledge overview on the climate impact of premises that the climate group in SUHF's expert group for property and security issues produced in 2022 - 2023.

A working group led by the undersigned and representatives from KTH, Stockholm University, Mälardalen University and Dalarna University, as well as Akademiska Hus, has met for the first time to set up the framework for the work and make a timetable for the work. The areas that we think should be highlighted in the guideline/guidance are, in addition to a general introduction, premises utilisation including sharing, energy, recycling and green leases/collaborative agreements.

The work will be carried out during 2024 and the ambition is that we have a draft of the guideline ready already this spring, before the summer holidays, in order to be able to anchor it in the autumn with you and other relevant target groups within our higher education institutions.

Would you or someone from your institution like to participate in this work? You may have important experiences to share or wise lessons learnt in your work. If so, please feel free to get back to me about it. All input is valuable. If you just want to follow the work and receive regular information or perhaps be part of a reference group, you are also welcome to contact me.
