The workshop brought together over 50 people
On 28 September, the Climate Network of Higher Education Institutions organised a workshop to launch the work of the Business Travel focus group. 50 people participated in the day, which took place at KTH.
About 50 people participated in the Climate Network's workshop on business travel. Most of them were on site at KTH and a dozen participated digitally. Daniel Pargman hosted the day together with his colleague Markus Robèrt and Andreas Schennings and Joel Larsson from Carbon Compute, who are responsible for analysing flight data.
- ‘We brought a proposal to the workshop on how to classify our journeys,’ says Mr Pargman.
‘The proposal was to divide journeys into three categories based on distance: short journeys up to 75 miles, medium journeys up to 350 miles and long journeys.
- We have chosen 75 miles, so that the distance from Luleå to Stockholm can also be included. Medium journeys cover the European continent and long journeys are intercontinental,’ says Daniel.
The workshop also discussed proposals to use regions (Sweden, Scandinavia) instead of distance, but it was distance that was agreed upon.
- ‘With a common measurement system, we can calculate the carbon footprint per trip, be sure that everyone counts the same and that it is possible to compare the results between the universities. The HEIs that want to participate in the project will send their data to the focus group leader, who will treat all data anonymously.
- The next step is for those who want to be involved in the work to anchor it at their university, and we obviously want as many universities as possible to be involved,’ says Daniel Pargman.
