Questions and Answers About Login

How do I get a login?

When you are registered for the course, an automatic email will be sent to you: Finish registration. Your username (login) is your email address (if you do not have a unique email address, you will receive a different username) and you get the password yourself. You will also receive an invitation to the course itself via an automatic email: Course invitation. The sender of these emails is: notifications(at)instructure.com.

Note: Double check spam if you have not received any emails.

I forgot my login. What do I do?

The learning platform has a feature to update the password should you forget it. Go to www.meny.se and click on "Sign in to your web course". Enter your username in "Login" and click on "Forgot password". Then enter the username again and click on "Request password". An email will then be sent, to the email address registered to you, with a link to the update: "Click here to set a new password".

Student/Employee or Other user?

On the login page you can choose between "Students and employees" (students and employees at SLU) or "Other users" (other course participants). You should select Other users.

Which browser should I use?

SLU's Learning Platform Canvas works best in Chrome or Firefox browsers.

Questions and Answers About Contracts and Invoices

For how long do I have access to the course?

Normally, you have one month's access to the course, from the time you receive your login details. In the summer, however, when we have less staffing and, for example, do not offer quick management of certificates of competence, you have three months of access to the course. 

Note: For the course Animal care at slaughter according to EC 1099/2009, one year's supply applies.

How do you send the invoice?

The invoice is normally sent by post. We can also email the invoice if desired. Then enter the billing email address on the registration form. Note: In this case, organizations must provide a central billing email.

When do you send the invoice?

SLU normally sends out invoices every week. In the case of full and half-yearly financial statements (January and July), there is a delay of invoices of up to three weeks. 

When do you send my course certificate/certificate of competence?

Your course certificate/certificate of competence will be sent to you by email when the invoice is paid. If you have ordered quick handling, the certificate of competence will be emailed to you within two working days of passing the examination.

I have paid the invoice. Why is my course certificate/certificate of competence delayed?

Your course certificate/certificate of competence will be sent to you by email when the invoice is paid. There is 30 days of credit on the invoice so if the payment is made on the last paid inch, the certificate of competence will be sent after this.

Note: SLU is an authority with central invoice handling according to special routines. It takes a few days after payment before we are told that the invoice has been paid.

Questions and Answers About Competence Certificate for Horse Transporters

What does quick management of the certificate of competence mean for horse transporters?

Quick handling is available for an additional fee. This means that the certificate of competence is emailed to you within two working days of passing the examination. Reporting to the Swedish Board of Agriculture takes place when the invoice is paid.

Why does quick handling cost extra?

Vid snabbhantering bevakar vi dina resultat dagligen och kompetensbeviset mailas till dig inom två arbetsdagar efter godkänd examination. Normalt rapporteras resultaten in en gång i veckan och kompetensbeviset mailas när fakturan är betalad. Samtidigt sker inrapportering till Jordbruksverket.

How long does handling take without quick handling?

Just in case, you should expect one month from registration. Normally, the course results are reported once a week, and the certificates of competence are emailed when the invoice is paid. At the same time, reports are made to the Swedish Board of Agriculture. In the case of full and half-yearly financial statements (January and July), there is a delay of invoices of up to three weeks. 

Note: There is 30 days of credit on the invoice. If you are quick with the course, but pay the invoice on the last day of payment, there may be a delay before your certificate of competence arrives.

What certificates are needed when transporting horses in economic activities?

• • You must register as a carrier with the Swedish Board of Agriculture and obtain a carrier permit.
  • You must have a certificate showing that the vehicle you are using is inspected and approved by the county administrative board.
  • You must also have a certificate of competence for the transport of horses. SLU Meny has an approved course for this.

Who checks that I have a certificate of competence for horse transporters?

The County Administrative Board does, if you are in Sweden.

What happens during a check if I don't have a certificate of competence for horse transporters

Within Sweden, the same order applies as for other violations of the Animal Welfare Act. Abroad you can get direct fines. You also risk not being allowed to drive.

I am not a Swedish citizen. Can I take your horse transport web course?

Yes, you can participate in the course and the certificate of competence is valid throughout the EU and in Norway. However, the course is in Swedish. You must ensure that your certificate of competence is registered with the right authority in your country. We only report to the Swedish Board of Agriculture. 

Why don't you have quick management of certificates of competence in the summer or on larger weekends?

During these periods we have less staffing, due to holidays (holidays), and therefore cannot offer quick handling. In the summer, however, we offer three months of access to the course instead of normally a month.

I only transport horses in hobby activities. Do I still need a certificate of competence?

As long as you drive in Sweden and not in economic activities, you do not need to have a certificate of competence. See the Swedish Board of Agriculture's website for information about what counts as economic activity.

Note: As soon as you cross the border into another country, it applies to the country's interpretation of what counts as economic activity.

What about other countries?

The certificate of competence is valid throughout the EU and in Norway. However, countries have different regulations regarding the transport of animals.  On this page you will find links to responsible authorities in different European countries. It is important that you check which regulations apply in the country(s) you are going to/through.

How long does the certificate of competence apply for horse transport?

In Sweden, the certificate of competence is valid until further notice. So it is not time-limited. If you are convicted of any serious violation of the Animal Welfare Act, it may be withdrawn.

In addition to the certificate of competence for horse transport, do you also offer a small wrapped card for your wallet?

Some trainers do, but we have chosen not to. The regulation (EC 1/2005, Article 17(2)) still requires the official certificate of competence in the car, since an inspection must be able to show it.

Do I need a certificate of competence for animal care at slaughter (EC 1099/2009)?

• You must have proof of competence to:

  • managing and caring for animals before fixation
  • fixing animals for stunning or killing
  • stun animals
  • assess whether the anaesthetic has been effective
  • link or otherwise hang stunned live animals

Do you issue certificates of competence for animal care at slaughter (EC 1099/2009)?

We are approved trainers and test givers for animal care at slaughter according to EC 1099/2009. However, it is the Swedish Board of Agriculture that issues the certificate of competence itself. After passing the test with us, you will receive a diploma that you must attach the application to the Swedish Board of Agriculture. 

How do I apply for a certificate of competence for slaughter?

When you have your diploma, you must attach this to your application for a certificate of competence with the Swedish Board of Agriculture. You apply digitally, via the Swedish Board of Agriculture's website, in the e-service Apply for proof of competence for slaughter and killing. Applications to the Swedish Board of Agriculture are free of charge.

Can you register only to the final exam?

Companies that are themselves approved trainers by the Swedish Board of Agriculture have the opportunity to report staff only for the final test.

How do you register to the final exam of animal care at slaughter?

When you are ready to take the exam, we will schedule a time that suits you, the test guard and the support. This should be planned at least a week in advance. The test is organized at SLU in Skara or out at the facility, if the animal welfare responsible staff can act as a test guard. You can also book a writing place at a library or learning centre.

Who can be a test guard if I write the final exam remotely?

If you are going to arrange a test guard yourself, the animal welfare manager at the slaughterhouse can be a test guard, it can also be possible to book into a nearby library or learning center.

Questions and Answers About the Final Exam

How many questions does the final quiz consist of and how many right do you need to have to be approved?

First comes 15 general questions that are independent of animal species. There are 15 specific questions for each species. If you handle an animal species, there will be a total of 30 questions in the test. If you handle two species of animals, there will be 45 questions, etc. For approval, 70% correct is required.

Can I find out exactly what questions I was wrong with in the test?

Once you have submitted the exam, you have the opportunity to see what questions you replied incorrectly before starting a new attempt. The correct answers are not displayed.

What happens if I miss the test?

You have three attempts at the time of the test. If you still miss the test, it is possible, for an additional fee, to register for re-examination.

I get worse results when I re-take the test. What result counts?

It's only your best result that counts.
