Wallenberg Initiatives in Forest Research

WIFORCE is a fundamental research program at the Faculty of Forest Sciences, generating knowledge for the future management and conservation of forests.

Research for the future of forests

The growth of Sweden’s forests has decreased significantly over the past 15 years. The causes remain unclear, but climate change is believed to play a major role, bringing more intense autumn storms, increased drought, and more pests. To sustainably manage forests while preserving their biodiversity, fundamental knowledge of forest ecosystems and their processes is needed – this is why the Wallenberg Initiatives in Forest Research was launched.
