Emmanuelle Jacquin-Joly has been appointed Honorary Doctor of Agricultural Sciences at the Faculty of Landscape Architecture, Horticulture and Crop Production Science at SLU.
Research Director Emmanuelle Jacquin-Joly investigates the chemical communication between insects, and how they use smell and taste to find food and mates. She is professor and senior scientist at France’s National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment (INRAE) in Versailles. She has been the head of the Department of Sensory Ecology at the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Sciences – Paris since 2014, and in 2018 she was elected into the French Academy of Agriculture.
One aim of Emmanuelle Jacquin-Joly’s research is to facilitate the discovery of chemical substances that insects sense and respond to. The exploration of the molecular mechanisms involved in taste and smell is also used in the development of innovative and environmentally friendly solutions for controlling harmful insects. She has also conducted pioneering research on how olfactory receptors have evolved over time, and enabled insects to adapt to new host plants.
For over twenty years, Emmanuelle Jacquin-Joly has made significant contributions to research and education at SLU’s Department of Plant Protection Biology. She has taught, supervised doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows, and participated in exchange visits. She has also made significant contributions to the Linnaeus IC-E3 project – Insect Chemical Ecology, Ethology and Evolution. The collective expertise within her research group continues to be an asset to SLU.
Can be published along with texts about the honorary doctor. Photographer must be marked.
