Giulia Vico is a professor of ecology since 1 January 2024. Her inauguration lecture has the title "Agriculture and forests facing climate change: impacts and adaptation".

Giulia Vico explores how plants respond to adverse weather conditions, such as lack of precipitation and extreme temperatures. She quantifies the risk of damage to crops and forests under current and future climates, and explores what can be done to reduce these risks and secure production. Measures may include choice of species and varieties with specific traits, species diversification, and irrigation. She uses process-based models and large data analyses, exploiting published studies, as well as long-term experiments and regional and national surveys.
