Partnerships: Biodiversity and ecosystems

Last changed: 29 April 2021

Biodiversity, on land and in water, is lost at an alarming pace; the consequences for ecosystems and ecosystem services, critical for the existence and well-being of humans, are complex and insufficiently understood.

Research and monitoring of relevant indicators are needed for development of adaptive, integrated management and restoration plans for different types of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. For domesticated species, breeding programmes can play an important role for conservation and enhancement of genetic diversity.

Below you can explore examples of SLU's partnerships and research linked to climate change.

Partnerships

Ethiopia's forest sector

SLU is together with the Swedish Forest Agency and Eco Innovation Foundation supporting Ethiopia’s efforts to capacitate its forest sector. The Swedish team is lead by researchers from SLU.

Reforest Africa

A Regional Research School in Forest Sciences (REFOREST) is a new, innovative, interdisciplinary and unique regional PhD degree programme for training future generation forest scientists in Africa. The programme is hosted at Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) and is anchored in partnerships where universities in the region in collaboration with the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) support PhD training in forest sciences.

LoCoFoRest

The Locally Controlled Forest Restoration programme is a capacity development programme led by the Swedish Forest Agency. LoCoFoRest focuses on one critical question: How can we scale up restoration of forest landscapes while securing the prosperity of local communities and maintaining and improving ecosystem services?
