Research river

Last changed: 27 October 2022

The research river was finished in 1996, created by connecting islands, digging a channel and putting out loads of gravel and stones in the part of River Dalälven called Kungsådran. Today vegetation is established by the riverside along the whole research area and gives the fish protection and the area similar to a natural river stretch.

There is a trap at the inlet hindering fish from escaping the research river and at the same time stopping unwanted fish from entering.

In the outlet area there are traps both for upstream and downstream migrating fish. There are also basins for keeping fish waiting to be tagged or sampled.

The research river is well suited for large scale experiments, such as smolt migration or release of roe of different origin, where you have better control compared to a wild river.
