In the stream aquaria in Älvkarleby you can study fish in running water under controlled conditions. This makes the stream aquaria suitable for, for example, studies on spawning salmon and trout.

The Stream aquaria holds 35 000 liter water and the water flow can be regulated between 0 and 1,2 m/s.

Three types of water quality can be used, single or mixed:

  • Unfiltered water from the river
  • Filtered water from the river
  • Groundwater

The light can be manipulated to create different lightening regimes. There are large possibilities to adapt the aquaria to the wanted biotop.
