We are responsible for conducting the national fish monitoring along the Swedish west coast.

The coastal trawl survey is an annual expedition where we investigate the nearshore demersal fish fauna along the west Swedish archipelago—ranging from the offshore bank Fladen in the south of the Kattegat to Singlefjorden at the Norwegian border in the Skagerrak.

Each year, we trawl approximately 35 fixed stations in coastal areas, fjords, and the open sea. The aim is to understand how the environment and human impact affect fish populations, as well as to evaluate fisheries management measures. The survey also provides fundamental data on indicators for coastal fish species as part of the work with the Marine Strategy Framework Directive.

The coastal trawl surveys are conducted once a year, in September.
