Plant nutrients from organic residues in green house production – Bio fertilizer in hydroponic production

Last changed: 05 September 2024

The overall purpose of this plant nutrient project is to develop the use of biogas and other organic residues to high-value plant nutrient products for intensive horticultural production, primarily for use in modern greenhouse production.

The focus of this subproject is the use of residues from biogas production in hydroponic vegetable crops. Management of high ammonium levels through different nitrification steps and supplementation of the bio fertilizer with important nutrients from other sources of residues. Control of pH is an important factor in these cultivation systems and we develop techniques for controlling the pH with the addition of bio fertilizers in different stages of the nitrogen conversion process.
Overall, more basic scientific factors are being studied which increase the understanding of organic residues as a possible resource. The project is part of a PhD project.
