We will develop a mapping population, which will be genotyped and phenotyped in field trials.

WP 1-3 aimed at establishing reliable links between early root growth, root allocation early in the growing season and plant nutrient economy especially during grain filling. Based on the data and analyses done in WP 2  & WP 3WP 4 will identify easy-to-measure traits that are indicative of high nutrient use efficiency (as assessed in the field); and take the first necessary steps in identifying genetic markers for the increased application of marker-assisted breeding by the breeding company on basis of phenotyping in field and genotyping of a newly developed mapping population.
