At the Department of Applied Animal Science and Welfare in Gothenburg, our activities are related to fish welfare, environment, and health. We pool resources with the Department of Biology and Environmental Sciences at the University of Gothenburg, where we have access to modern and purpose-built laboratory facilities and Sweden's largest experimental animal department for fish, equipped with aquariums and tanks suitable for maintaining freshwater and saltwater fish of various sizes and species. In Gothenburg, important collaborative partners are RISE and IVL, as well as the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management.

The activities in Gothenburg are largely based on international collaboration between researchers, aquaculture farmers, professional fishermen, industry organizations, and developers of innovations for aquaculture and fisheries. The geographical location of Gothenburg provides a natural starting point for conducting internationally recognized research. Additionally, the proximity to Skara and the collaboration with researchers there have been strongly contributing factors to the successful development of the division.
