Rewetting drained peat soils has the potential to contribute to carbon emission reduction, climate adaptation and biodiversity enhancement. The actions implemented in the project will be used to draw lessons that can be shared between project participants and to others.

The Land 4 Climate project focuses on the rewetting of peatlands and runs between 2024 and 2027.

SLU is participating in Land4Climate together with municipalities, water boards, companies and other authorities. By exchanging experiences and learning from each other across national borders, it is hoped that work on rewetting organogenic soil can be developed faster and more efficiently.

The project aims to:
  • Re-wet more peat soil
  • Find methods to reduce barriers
  • Develop multifunctional solutions
  • Support and facilitate the involvement of local actors
  • Exchange knowledge between participants and external actors
The project aims to rewet 20-40 wetland areas in Sweden and Denmark. Municipalities will have a key role as local facilitator within the process. WP4 lead by SLU is contributing with scientific and practical competences (GIS, dialogue methods, implementation processes, multifunctionality, biodiversity, energy landscapes).
