Refining of whole plant legumes to high value products- climate impact
The project is cooperation between SLU and Eco Etanol AB. The company Eco Etanol AB has developed a method to process whole plant field beans and field peas into three fractions, protein, starch and fibers. These fractions can be refined into products such as ethanol, protein feed and fuel pellets. Today field beans and peas are to a great extent produced to be used as feed, instead a set of valuable product may be produced from the same plant. These products can potentially reduce the climate impact compared with imported soy feed, fossil fuels and fuel pellets produced from other biomass.
The aim of the project it to analyze the climate effects of the above described system using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).
This project is financed by SMURF
