Tree sprouting forecast

The Unit performs assessments of forest phenology since 2006, including measuring bud and shoot/leaf development of four tree species; Downy and Silver birch, Norway spruce and Scots pine. These are used as the basis for the forecast models on sprouting you can find here.

This years weather data is used to calculate the temperature sum (threshold +5°C) up until present day, and for the coming days, averaged 30-year daily average air temperature data from the same weather station are used to produce the forecast.
