The experiment was established in 1923 in a stand that was naturally regenerated in 1864.

Purpose

Comparison of growth in a compartment that has been regularly thinned with the growth in a compartment that has been left untreated.

Experimental design

Compartment 1: 0.122 hectares.
Compartment 2: 0.148 hectares.

Management practices

Compartment 1

Thinning carried out six times when the stand was aged 60, 69, 78, 88, 84, and 104 years.

Compartment 2 (Control compartment)

Self-thinning. No active measures.

Data collection

Experiment 9044 has been measured on nine occasions from 1923 to 2000. The measurement data includes:

  • Diameter of each tree.
  • Height, crown height, and bark thickness of a randomly selected sample of trees.
