Wood Science

The Division of Wood Science and Technology conducts research and education on biomaterials and products; specifically, wood anatomy, wood and pulp and non-wood fibre micro- and nanostructure including aspects of size distribution and processing, wood technological properties (i.e. mechanical, physical and chemical properties), cell wall biosynthesis (fibre biology), wood chemical modification and protection, fundamental studies on the mechanisms of wood biodegradation by the main decay groups, adhesion and adhesives technology, and technology of wood- and fibre-based products. The Division is accredited by SWEDAC for laboratory and outdoor (field) testing of the durability of wood materials against biological decay and carries out testing for both industry and academia. The Division has strong industrial collaboration with the Swedish pulp and paper, wood protection, wood furniture and construction, and other Forest industries as well as national and international collaboration with other groups within its research fields.
