Brännlandet is a farm in Ostrobothnia, Finland, focusing on the production of table potatoes. The farm is now run by the fourth generation. Potatoes are the main crop, but we also grow forage, grains, asparagus, and vegetables.

- Sustainability is important to us, says Mari and Jonas, which is why we have chosen to focus on maintaining a good crop rotation on our fields. On the potato fields, we practice a rotation of a maximum of three years of potatoes followed by two years of clover forage. The clover forage creates a substantial biomass above and below the ground, which is plowed back into the soil. This helps provide nutrients for the subsequent crop while also sequestering carbon in the soil and increasing the humus content.

We also operate on the principle of "making do with what you have" and enjoy using the materials already available on the farm for both large and small building projects.

In 2023, we harvested our first asparagus, and that same year, we began a small-scale vegetable cultivation with a variety of different vegetables. A small farm shop was constructed from leftover wood and materials we had on the farm, where we sell our products. The farm shop operates on a self-service basis, allowing customers to come and shop whenever they wish.

In addition to summer vegetables, we also sell potatoes year-round in the farm shop. In the summer of 2023, we had a flower meadow where visitors could pick their own bouquet. This popular concept has potential for further development. We are also considering hosting open days, where people can visit the farm and buy vegetables directly from the fields.
