Undergraduate level

The department primarily teaches in the forest bachelor and forest economic bachelor programmes. These programmes are only offered in Swedish, with a few courses in English. To learn more about thoose, please switch to the Swedish page.

You are welcome to write your undergraduate thesis at the Department and take any of our courses.

Advanced level

At the advanced level, we offer the majority of the courses in the two master programs in Forest and Business Management and Forest Bioeconomy Management, both in Ultuna, Uppsala campus.

More on the Master in Forest and Business Management

You use business administration theories to understand the forest industry and its societal part. The education is centered around the forestry sector and sustainable development. You are welcome to do courses on the global forestry sector, economics and markets, advanced marketing, sustainability reporting and key performance indicator analysis, ethics in organisations and society, wood science, as well as international forest policy and research methods. Specialize in management and innovation management and conclude your studies with a master thesis in business administration.

More on the Master in Forest Bioeconomy Management

Become an expert in the forest industry and the part it plays in society, sustainable development, and forest value chains. In this program, you are welcome to courses on the global forestry sector, economics and markets, marketing, wood science, international forest policy, wood science, as well as management of innovation in the bioeconomy as well as value chain analysis. Complete your studies with a research methods course and a master thesis in bioeconomy management.

Doctoral Education

Our department is an international one, and with us you’ll work with people from all over the world studying subjects like bioeconomy management, business administration, economics, and forest policy. While here, you will also meet fellow researchers at Umeå University through the Centre for Environmental and Resource Economics, CERE and be part of the Faculty of Forestry's research school SILVA with PhD students from different subject areas.

More on Doctoral Education

Within the department, there are two subject areas you can study on for your PhD; business administration and, economics.

Pursuing a PhD at our department is regulated by the university guidelines. Our PhD program is based upon individual study plans adapted to the project that the PhD student is working on. Each PhD student has a main and one or more assistant supervisors, to support the development of the PhD student’s research abilities. The doctoral program, which is planned over four years, includes two parts: doctoral courses and thesis work. Being a PhD student at with us means that you are part of the department, receive a working space at the department (on either of our campus), and that you are welcome to meetings, seminars and department activities. If interested, you are also welcome to participate in undergraduate teaching or supervision.
