National Forest Estimates

Last changed: 22 August 2024

The project group is continuously developing remote sensing methods to generate national raster databases with estimated forest variables.

A part of the remote sensing activities involves developing methods for the department’s ongoing environmental analysis. Among other things, methods are continuously being developed to produce improved national raster databases with estimated variables, such as volume, tree species composition, and tree height.

In collaboration with the Swedish National Forest Inventory (NFI), remote sensing-based methods are being developed to improve the accuracy of estimates for variables such as volume and cuttings provided by the NFI. The aim is to report results for areas smaller than counties.
