Forest Data Lab at SLU - ForestDataLab@SLU

Last changed: 31 October 2016

The Forest Data Lab is a new experimental environment for analysis of forest data. The lab will be a creative meeting place that promotes the use of the latest technology in 3D remote sensing and the various data and analysis tools that are managed within SLUs environmental monitoring and assessment.

Aim and goal

The lab will spread know ledge about the possibilities of new digital technology for mapping, modelling and visualisation of forest resources, and make forest data available. Target groups are forest companies, consultants, authorities and students. Through the lab SLU offer forest sector players access to analytical skills, data and software. This is needed to explore opportunities to process new data sources with existing data and customize the new products to their own operations. The lab will also provide resources for projection and visualization of forest scenarios.

Planed design and implementation

The lab will be equipped with software and computers for production of forest estimates, data visualisation and scenario modelling of future forest state. Scientists and environmental analysts from different competence areas will be available in the lab for guidance. The lab will work as a physical creative environment for meetings, but also function as a virtual internet based lab. Seminars, thematic workshops and hackatons will be arranged and information distributed via established internet channels. A service for distribution of data for three test sites will be established.
