Organization and participants in Waste2Fish

Last changed: 01 March 2022

The project is a three-way collaborative effort between the Department of Molecular Sciences, the Department of Animal Nutrition and Management (both at SLU) and the Food & Bioscience Unit at the SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden.

Project participants

Professor Anna Schürer, coordinator

Department of Molecular Sciences, SLU
Linköping University, Tema Environmental Change

Professor Anna Schürer is an expert on anaerobic microbiology and the anaerobic digestion process and will supervise 1. Anaerobic digestion of mixed pre- and post-consumer food waste for the production of acetate-rich digestate as well as advise the microbial aspects of 3. Evaluation of feed properties of acetate-grown yeast.

Professor Anders Kiessling

Department of Animal Nutrition and Management, SLU

Professor Anders Kiessling is an expert on fish nutrition and fish as food and are supervising 3. Evaluation of feed properties of acetate-grown yeast.

Professor Torbjörn Lundh

Department of Animal Nutrition and Management, SLU

Professor Torbjörn Lundh is an expert on feed analysis with particular focus on aquaculture feeds and are co-supervising 3. Evaluation of feed properties of acetate-grown yeast.

Dr Sebastian Håkansson

Department of Molecular Sciences, SLU

Dr Sebastian Håkansson is an expert on microbial fermentation and physiology and will supervise 2. Aerobic cultivation of yeast on acetate-rich digestate and also advise on the microbial aspects of 3. Evaluation of feed properties of acetate-grown yeast.

Dr Anna Woodhouse

Food and Bioscience, RISE, Research Instituties of Sweden

Dr Anna Woodhouse is an agronomist and LCA expert and will supervise and carry out 4. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of yeast feed cultivated on anaerobically digested food waste with colleagues at SP with LCA expertise in fish feed, waste and biorefineries.

In addition, postdocs and PhD students will be involved in the project.
