Application

The applications for 10 BEYOND PhD positions will open in 2025, and all Doctoral Candidates are expected to start by the end of 2025.
You can choose up to three PhD projects in your application form.

You must also apply for them separately via relevant institutional websites or mail to the supervisor.

The deadline for your application is 2025-03-15.

Qualifications

The candidates must have an MSc (or an equivalent) in environmental sciences, with knowledge in hydrology and/or biogeochemistry. A solid background in statistical data analysis is an important asset.

• Have potential for conducting outstanding research, as demonstrated by scientific accomplishments (in particular quality of MSc thesis, but also e.g. code repositories, conference presentations, outreach activities, or publications).
• Be interested in working in a multidisciplinary and international research environment.
• Have excellent communication skills in English, verbal and scientific writing.
• Be willing to undertake international travel for training and research activities of BEYOND and project-specific short visits and secondments at partner institutions.

Eligibility criteria

Candidates must also meet the following criteria:

1. Be of any nationality but must not have resided or carried out the main activity in the project country for more than 12 months in the last 36 months
2. Have not yet been awarded a PhD degree

Selection process​

Please apply through relevant institutional websites. The applications must be received by the 15th of March, including the following documents (all strictly in PDF format):​

• Curriculum vitae
• Master [alternatively, the expected graduation date of Master's degree] and Bachelor diplomas (in a single PDF file)
• 
  Master and Bachelor grades’ transcripts (in a single PDF file)
• Motivation letter stating your specific interest, motivation and qualifications for the project in question (max 1 A4 page)
• A research statement describing how your expertise and previous experience align with the PhD project objectives (200 words)
• The names of at least two reference persons (provide names and contact details) who can provide information on your research performance ​

Top candidates (with a score > 80 points) will be selected by BEYOND supervisors and invited to a remote interview within 4 weeks after the application deadline. The selection criteria include:​

• Motivation & Enthusiasm (10 points)​
• Research excellence (60 points)​
• Initiative & Independency (15 points)​
• Communication (15 points)​

The candidates with the highest score for each PhD position, but with a minimum of 80 points, will be offered the position.​
The BEYOND team will take all measures to implement the principles set out in the Commission Recommendation in the European Charter for Researchers and the EURAXESS Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers.​
