On the 17th of March the official inauguration ceremony of new professors took place in Uppsala. Flora Hajdu was inaugurated as new professor of Rural development with focus on the Global South.

Flora Hajdu's research deals with people's lives and livelihoods in rural areas, mainly in southern and eastern Africa. She tries to understand the local perspectives on policies and development projects in order to investigate the problems and misalignments that often arise when local needs meet efforts from outside.

Among other things, she has studied the effects of projects related to agricultural development, poverty alleviation and social security systems. In recent years, she has also investigated how Swedish climate compensation through tree planting in East Africa affects the local population.
