Jesper Larsson, Senior Lecturer at Division of Agrarian History, has been promoted to Professor, following a decision by Vice-Chancellor.

Jesper has been researching Agricultural history at SLU for almost 20 years, and his research revolves around governance of common-pool resources and collective action during early modern period (16th century to 19th century).

In March 2024, Jesper was awarded one of the most prestigious research grants in Europe, a consolidation grant from the European Research Council (ERC). He will receive 1,989,816 euros over five years for his project TransRein, which studies the transition to reindeer pastoralism in northern Eurasia.

In the justification for the promotion, the Vice-Chancellor writes, among other things, that there is a strategic need to develop the subject area of Agricultural history with a focus on sustainable natural resource management. The decision means that the subject area will become part of the Faculty's strategic competence supply plan in the future within Social sciences and Humanities, which lays the foundation for interdisciplinary approaches. The assessment is that Jesper Larsson has demonstrated through his ERC Consolidator Grant that his research is of the highest international quality and that he is fully qualified for the task.

Jesper Larsson took up the position on the 6th of March, 2025.
