Food and Landscape - Master's Programme

Country: Thailand

Who am I, and why did I choose SLU?

- My name is Ladapa, and I come from Thailand. I hold a bachelor's degree in the humanities and have a strong passion for culture, sustainability, and food. Consequently, I decided to pursue a master's programme related to food studies. After researching programmes in Asia and Europe, I found that the Food and Landscape programme at SLU best aligns with my interests because it is interdisciplinary and provides the opportunity to study food and its related dimensions in depth. The programme also offers practical experiences I am seeking, such as excursions, study visits, and internships, which I consider the most valuable aspects of studying at SLU.

What is the best thing about the Food and Landscape programme?
- As the master's programme focuses on various dimensions of food, including culture, landscape, agroecology, and the environment, it is multidisciplinary. It helps me gradually connect the dots between these dimensions throughout the learning process. My favourite activities in the programme are the excursion and the study visit. During the excursion, we explored foodscapes in Malmö, and the farm visit allowed us to interview farmers at outstanding farms in the Skåne region. These provided valuable hands-on learning experiences that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Additionally, on the first day of the programme, I was amazed by how diverse my classmates were! They come from around the world, including Sweden, several European countries, Peru, China, and more. The class is always lively and enriching because of the diverse perspectives and experiences shared by my classmates. I am delighted to have learned so much from them.

What is the best thing about SLU Alnarp?
- My first impression of SLU Alnarp is that it is located in the middle of a park, full of diverse varieties of enormous trees. The ancient Alnarp Slott (manor), one of the university's offices and lecture buildings, is also situated within the park – it is absolutely amazing! I love walking, running, or cycling in the park during my free time, as it is the perfect way to relax after class and enjoy forest bathing at the same time.

Another highlight of SLU Alnarp is the student accommodation. We live in cosy houses with private bedrooms and shared kitchens. Sometimes we cook together or have parties, which makes me feel at home here at SLU Alnarp.
