Euroforester - Master's Programme
Country: Germany
Why did I choose SLU?
- After completing my Bachelor’s in Forestry in Germany, I decided to further my studies with a Master’s Programme abroad. Among all the other universities, I chose SLU because the offered programmes seemed most interesting to me. In Euroforester, we delve into sustainable forest management in an international context, specifically focusing on the Baltic Sea Region. Additionally, the programme allows for elective courses, such as Forest Conservation Management or Urban Forestry, providing a great opportunity to broaden knowledge in closely related fields to forestry.
What is the best about the programme?
- The best thing about the programme is, for sure, the excursions abroad. We visited the Forest Agency, private forest owners, sawmills, and nature reserves in Lithuania and Latvia. Then, we traveled to the Białowieża National Park in Poland, where we explored the primary forest and studied the ecology of broadleaves. Other excursions took us to Germany and Denmark to learn about temperate forests. Of course, we also went on many excursions in Sweden, visiting private forest owners and research sites of SLU. Observing how forest management is conducted in countries other than Sweden provides a great opportunity to learn about different techniques and perspectives. The classes are also conducted in an international environment, which enhances the exchange of knowledge and opinions. This made studying a lot of fun by meeting people from all over the world.
What do I like about the campus in Alnarp?
- The campus in Alnarp is a beautiful place surrounded by fields and close to the sea. The castle and the surrounding park provide a quiet spot to sit in the summer while studying or meeting friends. In spring, when the trees finally turn green again and the flowers start blooming, taking a walk in the park is my favorite thing to do. Just a short bike ride away is the beach in Lomma—a great place to enjoy the summer sun. If you ever need a break from the tranquility of Alnarp, you can take the bus or bike to Malmö or Lund and experience the heartbeat of the city.
