Animal Nutrition and Welfare

The course is based on scientific literature, lectures, group discussions, on-farm practical and an individual project. The lectures focus mainly on the effects of feed on animal welfare in food producing animals on land and in water and sport and companion animals. Animal health, behaviour, nutrient requirements, resource utilization, hygienic quality of feed and environmental impact are considered throughout the course. In the individual project, the students are also able to suggest their own topic relevant to the course or choose from a list of projects.


Compulsory components occur in e g group work, presentations, group discussions, projects and practical exercises.


In the course, the following general skills are trained: critical evaluation of research papers, oral and written communication of science.
