The aim is that students will gain insights in possible work tasks in the student’s future profession, and learn how theoretical knowledge from the education can be applied in practice.
On completion of the course, students will be able to:
- perform certain practical tasks required to work at the organization where the practice is undertaken (placement)
- describe the most important skills required for work at the placement
- discuss, with in-depth reasoning, the relevance of knowledge from the student’s own education in relation to professional activities at the placement
- suggest how the student’s own theoretical knowledge can be applied in practice at the placement
- describe in detail the work conditions and different professional roles at the placement
- describe in detail the organization’s/company’s (placement) role in society
- reflect on the student’s own need of further knowledge to be able to work at the placement
Content
Participating in the daily work activities at the placement will correspond to approximately 80 % of the study time on the course. The student will have an academic supervisor at SLU and a supervisor at the placement for questions and discussions about the work tasks. After the placement period, the student will summarize her/his experiences and present these both in a written report and orally. The report shall contain a presentation of the placement, a description of the work tasks and the student’s own description of how he/she has fulfilled the intended learning objectives of the course.
The student is responsible for finding a placement. The student also prepares and plans the placement by establishing contact with a host organization, in Sweden or abroad. The placement and planned activities for the student must be approved by the course leader. The student, the course leader and the supervisor at the placement will jointly specify which work tasks that the student will perform during the placement.
The practical supervision at the placement will be developed individually, in agreement between supervisors and student. Attendance at the placement during the agreed hours as well as participation in a final seminar (the student’s oral presentation of experiences from the placement) are compulsory.
Grading form
The grade requirements within the course grading system are set out in specific criteria. These criteria must be available by the course start at the latest.Formats and requirements for examination
Passing the course requires approved written and oral presentations of the student’s experiences from the placement, as well as approved participation in compulsory course components: attendance at the placement and participation in the final seminar.
If a student has failed an examination, the examiner has the right to issue supplementary assignments. This applies if it is possible and there are grounds to do so.
The examiner can provide an adapted assessment to students entitled to study support for students with disabilities following a decision by the university. Examiners may also issue an adapted examination or provide an alternative way for the students to take the exam.
If this syllabus is withdrawn, SLU may introduce transitional provisions for examining students admitted based on this syllabus and who have not yet passed the course.
For the assessment of an independent project (degree project), the examiner may also allow a student to add supplemental information after the deadline for submission. Read more in the Education Planning and Administration Handbook.
Other information
The right to participate in teaching and/or supervision only applies for the course instance the student was admitted to and registered on.
If there are special reasons, students are entitled to participate in components with compulsory attendance when the course is given again. Read more in the Education Planning and Administration Handbook.
Additional information
The student makes contacts and requests for the placement, which must be approved by the course leader before starting the practical work at the placement.
