Objectives
The aim of the course is to give the student an introduction to the general working method, expertise and thinking of landscape architecture with reference to the creative character of the profession. The student is to try to use the sketch method to analyse a number of themes and issues, design a selected physical environment by synthesising many different aspects such as function, visual qualities and historical aspects to a functioning whole and to learn to present and argue for this design. The student is to encounter basic literature in the field of landscape architecture.
Learning objectives
After completing the course the students will be able to:
present a credible illustration plan with convincing content in terms of architectural expressions and qualities.
show through reflection that they have achieved basic understanding of the working process and methods of the landscape architect.
account for basic concepts, terminology and technical expressions concerning the landscape architect’s area of competence.
show convincingly through sketches that they have achieved a basic understanding and knowledge of measures and scale and the reality represented by the plan.
Content
Through the two parts of the course the students are guided through the design process, from the analysis of a site through problem formulation and eventually a final proposal for change of the site. In the course we focus on sketching as a working method. The course contains elements of searching for information and knowledge, problem solving and presentations. The students works mostly individually but certain parts are carried out as group work.
During the course a number of lectures are given. The content of these lectures is supposed to support the students in their individual work. The course also contains literature seminars and the handing in of a written report.
Exercises, seminars, presentations and submissions are mandatory.
The course gives 15 credits of skill training in the degree of master of science in landscape architecture.
