Objectives
The aims of the course are to provide training in carrying out digital landscape analysis with GIS, with the emphasis on the development of methods and approaches, and to create a broad understanding of the possibilities of digital landscape analysis within landscape architecture and spatial planning through a range of projects.
After having completed the course, the student should be abel to:
Derive and handle spatial data and analysis.
Analyse and describe spatial relationships with GIS based on relevant theories and methods.
Present spatial analysis written, orally and with illustrations/models.
Motivate choice of data, methods and implementation based on problem.
Content
The course works in partnership with current research projects to offer large amounts of realistic supporting data for student projects, which can be carried out individually or in groups. The objective is for the students to look for new angles of approach in analysis and presentation of the material. The work will also include classical analyses such as sight analysis and analyses prior to wind power establishments. In addition to a number of thematic and general lectures on data and analytical methods, the researchers from the various research projects will also provide subject-specific lectures. Emphasis is placed on the theory of landscape analysis and the theory of digital methods and techniques associated with GIS. The course concludes with a poster display of the students’ projects.
The course comprises lectures, supervision and presentation of project work, seminars, examination and evaluation and project work (planning and presentation). The seminars, presentations and examinations are mandatory.

If a student has failed an examination, the examiner has the right to issue supplementary assignments. This applies if it is possible and there are grounds to do so.
The examiner can provide an adapted assessment to students entitled to study support for students with disabilities following a decision by the university. Examiners may also issue an adapted examination or provide an alternative way for the students to take the exam.
If this syllabus is withdrawn, SLU may introduce transitional provisions for examining students admitted based on this syllabus and who have not yet passed the course.

Pre-knowledge in GIS is recommended. A self study course is offered by the responsible department.Courses in Landscape Planning from SLU counts as Landscape Architecture when assessing qualifications.
