Vegetation design

Information from the course leader

Dear students!

It is soon time for "Vegetation Design" - a course in which you will develop design skills, by making plans for a new urban forest!

I have now uploaded a definite schedule. Note that a number of the lectures, seminars and excursions are mandatory!

Note also that the course intro and the rest of the first day will not take place in Alnarp, but at Katrinetorp, on the southern outskirt of Malmö. This is because Katrinetorp is the site that we will work with during the course. There are local buses stopping near Katrinetorp, for example city buses 2,7 and 9. Please check possible travel routes at Skanetrafiken.se!

I will soon (beginning of week 33) launch a Canvas page for the course, where you will get a lot of course information.Until then, I can inform you that the course literature will consist of the following two titles:

1) "Designing Sustainable Forest Landscapes" by Simon Bell and Dean Apostol (Bell, S. and Apostol, D. (2008). Designing Sustainable Forest Landscapes. Abingdon, Oxfordshire: Routledge). You are supposed to read the following pages; pp 1-98, pp 125-158, pp 173-193 and pp 299-325.

2) "Woods go urban - Landscape Laboratories in Scandinavia".(Editors: Anders Busse Nielsen, Lisa Diedrich and Catherine Szanto. Blauwdruk Publishers and Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences 2023. In this book you are only supposed to read pages 105-145. An excerpt from the book will be out up on Canvas.

Looking forward to meet you and work with you!

Anders
