Work Science - Work, Health and Leadership
The course provides an introduction to the subject of work science. Work science is an umbrella term for knowledge necessary to adapt technology, the environment and work to suit people´s biological, physiological, psychological, social and cultural circumstances.
The course is divided into the following subject areas: Introduction to work science, Psychosocial and organisational environment, Physical environment, Information and interaction in technical systems, Methods and design processes, Economic and legal conditions.
National and international research with relevance for the subject area will be discussed.

Välkomna till denna övergripande kurs i Arbetsvetenskap. Kursen går helt på distans och examineras med inlämningsuppgifter cirka var tredje vecka samt med en avslutande egen praktisk studie.

The objective of the course is to provide an introduction to the subject of work science. Work science is an umbrella term for knowledge necessary to adapt technology, the environment and work to suit people´s biological, physiological, psychological, social and cultural circumstances.
On completion of the course, students will be able to:
Define important work environment issues and explain the importance of these for human welfare, health and development in professional life
Describe and explain issues in central areas within work science
Analyse problems in working life and create a platform for designing productive and healthy workplaces
Locate and apply results of national and international research with relevance for the subject area.
Content
The course is mainly based on reading of the literature and internet-based sources of knowledge.
The course is divided into the following subject areas:
Introduction to work science
Psychosocial and organisational environment: Psychosocial work environment (mental health, leadership and distribution of power, working groups, etc.), The organisation of production and work
3.Physical environment: Physical load (work physiology, ergonomics, etc.), Physical factors, Chemical health risks.
Information and interaction in technical systems: Human-technology systems, Safety and risks
Methods and design processes
Economic and legal conditions: Occupational injuries, Work environment and economics, Work environment legislation, Standardisation
Grading form
The grade requirements within the course grading system are set out in specific criteria. These criteria must be available by the course start at the latest.Formats and requirements for examination
Pass grade in study- and exercise assignments reported via the internet.
If a student has failed an examination, the examiner has the right to issue supplementary assignments. This applies if it is possible and there are grounds to do so.
The examiner can provide an adapted assessment to students entitled to study support for students with disabilities following a decision by the university. Examiners may also issue an adapted examination or provide an alternative way for the students to take the exam.
If this syllabus is withdrawn, SLU may introduce transitional provisions for examining students admitted based on this syllabus and who have not yet passed the course.
For the assessment of an independent project (degree project), the examiner may also allow a student to add supplemental information after the deadline for submission. Read more in the Education Planning and Administration Handbook.
Other information
The right to participate in teaching and/or supervision only applies for the course instance the student was admitted to and registered on.
If there are special reasons, students are entitled to participate in components with compulsory attendance when the course is given again. Read more in the Education Planning and Administration Handbook.
Additional information
The course is provided as a distance learning course at 25% rate. Studies are carried out at home through reading the literature, responding to study assignments and completing exercises.As regards restricting the number of events, see the combined regulations for education at SLU.

Krav för godkänd kurs:
För godkännande på genomgången kurs krävs godkänd redovisning av individuella instuderingsuppgifter för delmomenten; Introduktion till Arbetsvetenskap, Psykosocial och organisatorisk miljö, Fysisk miljö, Ekonomiska och juridiska villkor, Arbetsplatsanalys. De fem delområden för kursen bedöms utifrån följande betygskriterier och ska innefatta alla tre delarna ”Ämneskunskaper”, "Diskussion och reflektion” och ”Formalia”.
För godkänd ska alla tre i rutorna för denna rad vara fullgjorda (se nedan). För överbetyget 4 ska både godkänd och väl godkänd vara fullgjorda. För betyg 5 ska godkänd, väl godkänd samt mycket väl godkänd vara fullgjorda.
