Nature's Calendar is a collection of phenological data - signs of spring, signs of autumn, the start, end and length of the growing season and other events in nature's calendar. The data collection has largely been done by citizen scientists.
The collection includes three datasets: the Plant Calendar, the Spring Check and the Bee Calendar. The Plant Calendar contains reported observations on the development of the growing season, such as flowering, leaf bursting, seed dispersal and autumn leaf colours. The spring calendar contains data on the progress of flowering of coltsfoot, common hepatica, wood anemone, willow and bird cherry, as well as leaf budding of birch, on 30 April. The Bee Calendar contains reported observations on the seasonal development of bee community growth, health, honey production and pollination.
Data from Nature's Calendar is used, for example, to monitor the Swedish environmental objectives through the environmental objective indicator ‘Plant growing season’.
