SITES Spectral – spectral data from SITES

Last changed: 13 May 2024

SITES Spectral is an infrastructure and monitoring programme within the national infrastructure SITES (Swedish Infrastructure for Ecosystem Science) focused on collecting spectral data for ecosystem monitoring. The SITES Spectral infrastructure carries out measurements using fixed multispectral sensors and phenology cameras as well as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) mounted with spectral cameras. Multispectral sensors and cameras capture seasonal and inter-annual variations in vegetation conditions over targeted areas.

The data collected is relevant to the study of a range of processes in the ecosystems, such as the vegetation's productivity and efficiency of light and moisture use, and can be used for research related to e.g. climate change, carbon and greenhouse gas balances, phenology, general ecology and biodiversity and plant science.

All nine SITES stations, including the four SLU stations Svartberget Research Station, Asa Research Station, Röbäcksdalen Field Research Station and Grimsö Wildlife Research Station, participate in SITES Spectral to varying extents.
