Ph.D course: Considering Uncertainty in Forest Management Planning

events |

Considering uncertainty in forest planning is crucial, allowing for the assessment and mitigation of risk. The nature of forest management planning occurs at various scales, from stand to landscape to national. Generally, long-term forest-wide objectives related to economical, societal, and ecological benefits need to be achieved, but at the same time, it is critical to incorporate detailed stand-level information to define more realistic management options.

The course provides basic knowledge and approaches to implement methods for solving forest management problems incorporating uncertainty and a theoretical foundation on techniques to solve these problems. The structure of the course consists of six modules taught by international experts on these topics and a variety of guest lectures and case studies with an emphasis on the effect of disturbances and the impact of other potential forest damage.
