Using aphids as an example, Alison Karley will summarise current knowledge about within-species variation in biocontrol resistance in the first Crop Production Ecology Monthly Seminar 2023.
Alison Karley - Research Leader at the Department of Ecological Sciences, The James Hutton Institute, Dundee, UK.
We’re familiar with the concept that pesticide use has been a strong driver for development of insecticide resistance amongst arthropod pests, leading to reduced pesticide efficacy.
Aphids are a prime example, with pesticide resistance detected at high frequency in several aphid species that are important crop pests. In the search for alternative pest control methods, particularly biological controls, research is now uncovering factors that could influence biocontrol efficacy.
Using aphids as an example, Alison Karley will summarise current knowledge about within-species variation in biocontrol resistance and how this can be used to inform integrated pest management strategies.
These seminars are a free and online platform for scientific debate about agricultural production and sustainability between academics, stakeholders, and the general public.
