Professor Joris van Acker, the former president of the European network Propopulus, will be the speaker.
Joris VAN ACKER started his career with a PhD grant in 1984 and then moved on to work as production manager in a plywood mill. He returned to UGent first as private project leader in 1988 and later as research assistant and senior researcher at UGent-Woodlab. Since 2005 Joris Van Acker is professor at UGent and head of the research group UGent-Woodlab, which is also part of the UGent Centre for Xray Tomography (UGCT). He is Past President of InnovaWood (European federation of wood research institutes), of the International Research Group on Wood Protection (IRG-WP) and of the ProPopulus organization. He is leading the working party on Production systems for the bioeconomy of the International Commission on Poplars and Other Fast-Growing Trees Sustaining People and the Environment (IPC) of FAO. He published over 180 Science Citation Index papers and he is member of the Wallenberg Prize selection committee.
