SLU´s global network is regularly organising seminars, called “Global Talks”, to discuss and exchange experiences on different topics. The Global Talks are sometimes held online and sometimes live at campus. They are open to all SLU staff.
On the 18 September 2024, SLU signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United nations (FAO). With agroecology as one of the four focus areas, the collaboration aims to broaden the perspective on, and response to the food system crises, and research solutions that cut across interlinked elements and dimensions of sustainable and just food systems. Using systems thinking, agroecology studies the ecology of food production and consumption. Vis-à-vis science, agroecology has a strong rooting in practice, and stresses the importance of (re)valuing empirical and indigenous, place-based knowledge as drivers for transformational change
This Global Talk will highlight how the SLU-FAO collaboration on agroecology is taking shape, and exemplifies three living labs from across the world (Uganda, Colombia, and Sweden) as mergers of science and practice, and hubs of restoration, regeneration and inspiration for local communities, with hopefully global impacts.
