The EU Soil Directive and the Nordics – Challenges, expectations, and the negotiations

green plant in soil

The European Commission presented a Soil Directive in July 2023 with the aim to have healthy soils in the EU by 2050. What does this mean for Nordic soils? In particular, what does it mean for the agricultural soil monitoring programmes in Sweden and Finland? And what is the state of the EU negotiations to agree on the directive’s scope and implementation? Welcome to a webinar where these issues will be in focus!

What? A webinar against the background of the EU Soil Monitoring Law focusing on the Swedish and Finnish perspectives on agricultural soil monitoring and the current status of the EU negotiations.
Where? Online via MS Teams
When? February 6th, 09.00-11.00 (Swedish time) and 10.00-12.00 (Finnish time)
How? The registration is closed.
NOTE The webinar will be held in English. It will not be recorded.

This webinar will bring together soil scientists and Nordic and European policymakers to shed light on the EU Soil Monitoring Law which is currently under negotiation. We will highlight questions such as:

  • What are the similarities and differences between LUCAS (the European soil monitoring programme) and national agricultural soil monitoring programmes in Sweden and Finland?
  • What are the most important issues for Sweden and Finland in terms of the Soil Monitoring Law?
  • What is the status of the Soil Monitoring Law negotiations?

The webinar is hosted by EJP SOIL in Sweden and Finland, represented by Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) and Natural Resources Institute Finland (LUKE).
