Urban Forests: The impact of tree origin on urban biodiversity

Johan Kjellberg Jensen's research focuses on the interaction between people and nature. This includes studies on how environmental change affects ecosystems, particularly in cities, where anthropogenic impacts are the most concentrated.

Johan is interested in the ecosystem as a whole and his research therefore encompasses multiple taxa, namely trees, arthropods, and birds. He strives to understand how specific environmental changes, such as air pollution, vegetation composition, and artificial light, impact ecosystems.

About the seminar:

Nonnative, also known as exotic, trees are prominent in cities and urban forests worldwide. With calls to further increase the proportion of nonnative plants in city planning as a proposed climate adaptation strategy, it is crucial to evaluate the impacts of species origin on biodiversity.

In his talk, Johan Kjellberg Jensen explores the ecological consequences of tree species choice in urban areas, based on recent research on arthropods and birds in Sweden.
