Cecilia Mark-Herbert
Presentation
Cecilia’s research has a start in her dissertation which was focused on the innovation process with empirical studies from the food sector (the development of radically new food products, so called functional foods). Her interests for food and added value, particular values related to health and corporate responsibility, remain. After her dissertation she proceeded in research in the field of corporate responsibility with marketing and ethics as theoretical starting points with a "circular bio-economy" perspective.
Teaching
Cecilia’s role as an advisor and teacher is in the subject of marketing at a bachelor, master and PhD level. Both courses and research related masters´ thesis projects where she takes the role as an advisor are positioned in management studies of sustainable business development. She also works with equal opportunities and pedagogical development. Teacher excellence (in 2018). In her role as a "pro-inspector" for the student union she keeps updated on student perspectives and university systems.
Research
Cecilia’s research has a start in her dissertation which was focused on the innovation process with empirical studies from the food sector (the development of radically new food products, so called functional foods). Her interests for food and added value, particular values related to health and CR, remain. After her dissertation she proceeded in research in the field of corporate responsibility with marketing and ethics as theoretical starting points applied in food and fiber production.
A research project that focused on Wooden Multistorey Construction for residential needs ran between 2020- 2023. It was a collaboration project with Helsinki University and LUKE. The focus of the project was transistions in residential house construction for sustainable development.
- Ongoing research projects concern sustainable development in food retail. This multi-perspective project is led by Malin Jonell at KVA, SU (2022-2025).
- In 2023 an agroforestry project, led by Anders Roos, was started in Kenya. The project concerns the local perspectives on the use of Tamarindus Indica and it is carried out with local partners in Kenya (AFF and KEFRI).
- A trans-disciplinary project dealing with condidtions for fish farming in the north of Sweden (Norrland) was made possible thanks to funding from the Kamprad foundation. Hanna Carlberg and Anders Kiessling are in charge of the project that runs 2023- 2027 and we are looking at the business adminstration aspects of this development.

Background
An undergraduate science background (in food science and medicine) paved way for a master’s degree with a major in food science and a minor in economics. After working as a marketing investigation consultant, she continued in a PhD program in marketing. Her experiences of studying in the US (Cornell University) and Canada (Wilfred Laurier) have served as inspiration for both studies, research and foremost pedagogics.
