Giulia Zacchello
Presentation
I work with environmental monitoring of grasslands, wetlands, power line corridors and other special types of protected habitats within Sweden. The goal of my work is to develop and put in action projects that aim to monitor spatial and temporal changes in the landscape. Examples of projects I am involved in are Regional environmental monitoring of remnant biotopes, grasslands and wetlands (Remiil), and Follow-up of grassland and bedrock nature types.
My daily tasks include fieldwork, data handling, data analysis, as well as reporting. Most of my work is made using the statistical program R.
I work as part of a group together with: Anders Glimskär and Matthew Hiron (researchers), Guillermo Aguilera Nuñez (environmental assessment specialist), and Anders Björkén, Assar Lundin and Merit Kindström (environmental assessment analysts).
Cooperation
Among others I work in collaboration with the County Administrative Boards, the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, and the Swedish Board of Agriculture. My activity is linked to SLU’s monitoring program of the agricultural landscape, which aims, among other things, to produce data for evaluating the national environmental quality goals at regional and national level.
Background
I have a PhD in Plant Ecology and Evolution, which I defended at Uppsala University. My project goal was to better understand how populations of the same plant species can adapt to their local conditions, a phenomenon known as local adaptation.
Since my PhD defence in 2021, I have worked at SLU.
