Presentation
I graduated in 2000 and have been working as a small animal clinician and teacher in small animal surgery at SLU since 2001. I became a Swedish specialist in small animal medicine and surgery in 2005.
In 2005-2006 I was director of studies at the Department of Small Animal Surgery and Medicine. Between 2006 and 2011 I did my residency training in small animal surgery.
In 2012 I became a PhD student at the Department of Clinical Sciences, division of diagnostics and large animal science. My PhD project is Feline Diabetes Mellitus and my main supervisor is Bodil Ström Holst.
Research
In my research project, four studies are planned:
- An epidemiological study on the incidence of Diabetes Mellitus in cats in a population of insured Swedish cats based on the Agria insurance company database in a collaboration with professor Agneta Egenvall. Aims with the study were to describe the incidence of diabetes in insured Swedish cats and the association with demographic risk factors, such as age, breed and sex.
- A clinical study focusing on diabetes in the Burmese cat breed. Burmese cats are predisposed to develop diabetes compared to other cat breeds.
- A genetic study investigating the gene expression in pancreatic beta cells in diabetic cats. We also plan to study the insulin resistance in fat and muscle tissue in more close detail.
- A questionnaire study with focus on environmental risk factors.
